Chiropractic Neurology

Dr. Picard is board eligible in Chiropractic Neurology, which is a specialty within the chiropractic profession. Utilizing a thorough understanding of the brain and the nerve system, chiropractic neurology uses neurological testing to determine areas within the brain, brain stem, spinal cord, and nerves that are not functioning at their optimal level. The brain and the nerve system can lose it’s ability to function for a number of different reasons. Repeated physical, mental, and chemical stress is found to be some of the more commonly understood reasons for this dysfunction to occur.

A dysfunction in the brain does not necessarily mean that an individual has a tumor or has had a stroke. The dysfunction in the nerve system refers to the fact that areas in the brain or nerve system are no longer working as well or as balanced as other areas in the brain and nerve system. When the “neurological circuits” of the brain and nerve system are not at functioning appropriately, then brain and nerve system dysfunction can be seen physically, mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Examples of neurological dysfunction include, but are not limited to:

  • Arm & shoulder pain
  • Low back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Herniated discs
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Dystonia
  • Tremor disorders
  • Headaches
  • Tics
  • Seizures
  • Developmental Delays
  • Balance Disorders
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Migraines
  • Headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Insomnia
  • ADHD
  • Tourette’s
  • Asperger’s
  • Digestive Disorders

Please understand that Dr. Picard does not “treat” nor is he claiming to “cure” any diseases. The intent of his care is to allow the body to function to it’s optimal level, allowing the body the opportunity to take over the healing process.

Keep in mind that our brain and nerve system is influenced by the different sensations such as touch, smell, vision, and sound. Chiropractic Neurology gives a greater understanding the different pathways of the brain and nerve system and how the different sensations (touch, smell, vision, and sound) can be used to influence under active areas of the brain and nerve system. As a result, Brain Based Therapies can be used such as: vision therapy, light therapy, sound therapy, balance therapy, olfactory stimulation and many more different types of therapies, to successfully help patients achieve their health goals. The therapies are determined after a very thorough neurological examination is performed. Specific exam findings will require specific Brain Based Therapies. No “cookbook” type care or “one size fits all” models are used.

Dr. Picard’s office was designed to allow for a multitude of different Brain Based Therapies, for those who are suffering with all types of problems. The care that is offered is gently, often relaxing, and is considered extremely safe and effective for seniors, adults, and children.
